ADEX Voice of the Ocean Photo+Video+Art Competition 2025

Voice of the Ocean is the photo, video and art competition associated with the flagship Asia Dive Expo (ADEX) in Singapore, the largest and longest-running dive show in Asia. Held from April 4 to 6, 2025, Singapore Ocean Week, ADEX Ocean Festival 2025 culminates in a captivating live judging event, with a prestigious jury—Chloe Harvey, Robert Stansfield, Berkley White, Erin Quigley, and William Tan—choosing the winners and runners-up in the competition categories as well as the “Best of Show” overall winner.

ADEX Ocean Festival 2025 is DEDICATED TO CEPHALOPODS with a CELEBRATION OF MARINE LIFE BEHAVIOR, and ADEX Voice of the Ocean 2025 includes both “Cephalopods” and “Animal Behavior” categories. Entrants will be invited to submit their best work in the following five categories: Animal Behavior, Cephalopods, Waterscapes, Artwork, and Short Film.

Winners will be revealed on UnderwaterCompetition.com and published by supporting media partners worldwide shortly thereafter. The entry fees are US$10 per image or video entered. As with all Underwater Competition Series events, 15% of entry proceeds will be donated to marine conservation efforts.

Categories
PHOTO
Animal Behavior

Any underwater image showing natural animal behavior. This includes (but is not limited to) feeding, hunting, fighting, courtship, mating, yawning, and activity at cleaning stations.

Cephalopods

Any underwater image involving a member (or members) of the cephalopod family in its (their) natural habitat. This includes octopuses, squids, cuttlefishes, and nautiluses. Subjects must be exhibiting natural behavior.

Waterscapes

Any image, captured above water, of a natural water body. This includes (but is not limited to) the sea, lakes, rivers, streams and wetlands. Both images shot on land as well as images shot using drones are accepted.

Artwork

Any artistic work depicting or inspired by the ocean or other natural water body. It may be created through two-dimensional media such as drawing, painting and printmaking, or mixed media. Digital drawing and painting tools may also be used. Artworks must be photographed for submission.

VIDEO
Short Film

Any film, five minutes or less in duration, where at least 50 percent of the footage is shot underwater. The remaining footage may be captured on land or from the air, including via drones.

Judges
Berkley White

Berkley White is a leading expert in the field of underwater photography and digital image processing. As a professional photographer and instructor, he shares his in-field photographic techniques and digital methods through a series of select travel events each year. Berkley is the founder of Backscatter in Monterey, California, the largest specialty underwater photographic supplier in the US, and is the organizer of international photographic events such as The Digital Shootout.

Chloe Harvey

Chloe Harvey, Executive Director of The Reef-World Foundation, is a professional diver and marine biologist with over 15 years of experience advancing sustainability in the diving industry. She leads the Green Fins initiative, developed with the UN Environment Programme, working on environmental standard setting and providing guidance for underwater photography. Chloe has collaborated with over 700 businesses, 19 national authorities, and 20 global dive brands to integrate sustainable practices. A respected voice on sustainability, she continues to drive positive change across the sector.

Erin Quigley

Erin Quigley is an award-winning photographer and Adobe A.C.E. certified expert in Lightroom and Photoshop. Her company, Go Ask Erin, provides education and post-production resources specifically developed for underwater photographers. Erin is a member of the Women Divers Hall of Fame, the Boston Sea Rovers, and the Ocean Artists Society. She teaches post-production and shooting techniques workshops worldwide.

Nicolas Remy

Nicolas Remy is a French-Australian freelance underwater photographer based in Sydney, Australia. He is the founder of The Underwater Club, an online photography school and community, with members in 18 countries, and he serves as an ambassador for Nauticam and Mares. Nicolas’ images have won over 40 international awards and have been widely published in print and digital media. A seasoned photojournalist, he has authored dozens of articles for publications such as Scuba Diver Magazine, Plongez! and DivePhotoGuide, covering marine life, dive travel, and equipment topics.

Robert Stansfield

Mexico-based British underwater photographer Robert Stansfield has recently made a name for himself by pioneering blackwater diving in Mexico. In 2021, he founded Blackwater Cozumel, the first Mexican blackwater dive. With his tireless efforts, Robert has placed Cozumel firmly on the blackwater diving map. Before devoting all of his time to underwater photography, Robert worked in live event video, touring the world with bands and musicians as well as working at world sporting events. Designing, installing and operating video systems, Robert worked closely with award-winning directors, operating cameras on many world arena and stadium tours. Over the course of his touring career, Robert grew his passion for making striking images and using framing as a narrative tool. Taking the knowledge gleaned from the events industry, Robert now teaches macro and blackwater photography from his home base on Cozumel.

William Tan

William Tan has been fascinated with the creatures of the sea since childhood. While studying at the Johns Hopkins University (USA), much of his spare time was spent gazing at the extensive marine collection of the nearby National Aquarium in Baltimore. A violinist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, William earned his scuba diving certification in 1994. Thereafter, without his prized antique Italian violin, he travels extensively between concert seasons throughout the Pacific region photographing marine life for scientific institutions, camera and housing manufacturers, tourism organizations, dive magazines and resorts.
